Žilina sthet weiter ohne Punkt da und kann sich nach der Winterpause voll auf die slowakische Liga konzentrieren. Da hat die Mannschaft von Trainer Pavel Hapal 6 Punkte Vorsprung und ist auf dem Weg der Titelverteidigung. Ins Achtelfinale begleitet wird der FC Chelsea von Olympique Marseille. Bei Spartak Moskau revanchierten sich die Franzosen für das 0:1 im Hinspiel gewannen 3:0. Olympique kam bei den Auswärtsspielen in Moskau und Žilina zu 10:0 Toren!

Arsenal London muss in der Gruppe H überraschend um den Einzug ins Achtelfinale bangen. Die Engländer verloren bei Sporting Braga 0:2 und sind nun mit den Portugiesen Punktgleich. Da Arsenal das Heimspiel 6:0 gewann, reicht zwar Punktgleichheit für das Achtelfinale, aber um sicher zu gehen, muss gegen den punktlosen Vertreter Partizan Belgrad am 8. Dezember ein Sieg her.
