Enttäuschend endete für Maria Riesch das Abfahrtsrennen in Val d´Isere. Die Deutsche kam mit 2,28 s Rückstand auf die Siegerin Lindsey Vonn in Ziel - 24. Schon bei der ersten Zwischenzeit war alles verloren. Riesch lag nur auf Platz 38 und bemüte sich danach um Schadensbegrenzung. Die Deutschen boten insgesamt eine ernüchternde Leistung. Beste Deutsche war Gina Stechert als 22.
Gut lief es dafür bei den Schweizerinnen. Nadja Kamer und Lara Gut schafften es als Zweite bzw. Dritte aufs Podest.
Lindsey Vonn übernahm mit dem ersten Saisonsieg die Führung im Abfahrtsweltcup. Im Gesamtweltcup rückte die Amerikaner bis auf 10 Punkte an Spitzenreiterin Maria Riesch heran.
Die Männer trafen sich in Val Gardena-Groeden zur Abfahrt. Der Sieg ging an den Schweizer Silvan Zurbriggen, der nur 0,06 s vor Romed Baumann (A) gewann. Platz 3 ging an Didier Cuche (SUI/+ 0,10 s), Platz 4 an Klaus Kröll (A/+ 0,11). Einen hervorragenden 10. Platz fuhr Stephan Keppler ein. Tobias Stechert verlor am Ende etwas und wurde 19.
Bach seinem heutigen Sieg übernahm Silvan Zurbriggen die Weltcupführung in der Abfahrt. Stephan Keppler verbesserte sich auf Platz 16. Auch in der Gesamtwertung ist der Schweizer Top.
