Der Spanier wurde hinter David Millar (UK) und Alex Rasmussen (DK) Dritter. Auch aus deutscher Sicht gibt es noch etwas Versöhnliches zu vermelden: Patrick Gretsch kam auf Platz 8, Sebastian Lang wurde 15.
In der Gesamtwertung baute Alberto Contador seine Führung auf 6:10 min aus. Zweiter wurde Michele Scarponi.
Einen guten Giro fuhr der Schweizer Johann Tschopp, der mit 35:20 min Rückstand auf Platz 16 kam.
