Der Giro ist weiter in den Dolomiten unterwegs. Über 229 km ging es heute von Conegliano nach Gardeccia/Val di Fassa. Eine Hammer-Etappe mit drei Bergwertungen der Kategorie 1 und dann noch der 2236 m hohe Giau-Pass, der zur höchsten Kategorie gehört.
Der Mann im Rosa Trikot, Alberto Contador, kontrollierte das Feld wieder und ließ nur im Ziel nur seinem Landsmann Mikel Nieve Ituralde der den Zielanstieg im Alleingang bewältigte und Stefano Garzelli (I), der 10 Sekunden vor dem Gesamtleader aus Spanien ins Ziel kam. Nieve hatte im Ziel 1:51 min Vorsprung auf Alberto Contador.
In der Gesamtwertung ist der ärgste Verfolger jetzt Michele Scarponi. Der Italiener verlor heute nur 7 Sekunden auf Contador, fährt aber insgesamt immerhin 4:12 min zurück.
