Es klingt mehr nach einem Final- als einem Startpunkt: Der Start des olympischen Fackelslaufes zu den Olympischen Spielen in London wird am Land´s End beginnen. Entgegen der vorherigen Spiele wird das Feuer diesmal nicht durch die Welt getragen, sondern direkt von Olympia in Griechenland nach Großbritannien geflogen.
Am 19. Mai beginnt dann der Lauf, an dem sich 8.000 Fackelträger beteiligen. Die Route führt durch das ganze Land, so dass 95 % der Bevölkerung die Möglichkeit haben, mit höchstens einer Stunde Anreise, das olympische Symbol zu sehen und zu feiern. Auch die Inseln wie Shetland oder Jersey bekommen Besuch vom olympischen Feuer.
Die Olympischen Spiele in London werden vom 27. Juli bis 12 August 2012 ausgetragen.
