Die 2. Etappe von Airolo nach Crans-Montana über 156 km sortierte gleich zu Beginn der Rundfahrt das Feld. Ein Berg der höchsten Kategorie zu Beginn der Etappe und und einer der Kategorie 1 am Ende ließen das Feld komplett auseinander fallen. Der Sieg ging an den Kolumbianer Juan Mauricio Soler, der 16 Sekunden vor dem Italiener Damiano Cunego gewann. Auf die Plätze kamen Bauke Mollema (NL/+ 22 s), Tejay van Garderen (USA/+ 27) und Frank Schleck (LUX/+ 31. Von den Deutschen konnte sich nur Linus Gerdemann einigermaßen in der Spitze behaupten. Der Leopard-Trek-Profi kam mit 1:51 min Rückstand auf Platz 16.
Die Gesamtwertung ist an der Spitze mit der der Etappenwertung identisch.
