Die 5. Etappe der Rallye Dakar hatte wieder die eine oder andere Herausforderung für die Athleten zu bieten. Mit 423 km war die Wertungsstrecke im Vergleich zu gestern doppelt so lang. Erst wartete eine steinige Strecke, die man vorsichtig passieren sollte, wollte man sich nicht das Fahrzeug kaputtmachen. Danach war ein Salar, also ein Salzseezu durchquere. Dann geht es über offenes Gelände, ehe die Etappeüber Dünen mit einem 2,3 km Gefälle von durchschmittlich 32 % endete. Bremsschäden verboten, Ob die Athleten einen Blick auf das nahe Meer warfen? Wohl eher nicht.
Bei den Autos schlug BMW diesmal den Volkswagen ein Schnippchen. Stephane Peterhansel gewann die Etappe mit 84 Sekunden vor Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah. Carlos Sainz verlor 3:15 min auf den Franzosen. Und so ist der Dreikampf noch spannender geworden. Carlos Sainz rettete von seinem Vorsprung heute noch 2:26 min bis ins Ziel. Auf den Verfolgerpositionen gab es einen Wechsel Stephane Peterhansel jetzt knapp vor Nasser Saleh al-Attiyah (+ 2:33).
Bester Deutscher beliebt Matthias Kahle, der sich mit fast 4 Stunden Rückstand auf Platz 14 verbesserte. Die anderen Platzierungen sind noch nicht offiziell vermeldet.
Lange sah es bei den Motorrädern so aus, als ob der Chilene Francisco Lopez Contardo eine Heimetappe gewinnen könnte. Aber dann kam noch BMW-Pilot Paulo Goncalvo und nahm Lopez 2:18 min ab. An der Spitze der Gesamtwertung gab es schon vor dem Start eine entscheidende Änderung. Titelverteidiger Cyril Despres bekam eine Zeitstrafe von 10 Minuten aufgebrummt, weil ihm gestern beim Start ein Flüchtigkeitsfehler unterlief. Heute verlor der Franzose dann weitere 12 Sekunden auf den Spitzenreiter Marc Coma. So liegt der Spanier nun mit 10:14 min Vorsprung vorn.
Von den deutschen Fahrern gibt es auch positives zu berichten. Daniel Schröder verbesserte sich heute auf Platz 47 der Gesamtwertung. Damit ist er in der Dakar-Neuling unter den besten 50. Starke Leistung. Auch Jan Vesely machte einen Sprung nach vorn und liegt nun auf Platz 75. Und Christina Meier steht auf Platz 97. Einige Fahrer sind aber noch nicht im Ziel, so dass es noch leichte Verschiebungen geben könnte.
Nun ist es soweit. Bei den Quads steht der Name Patronelli wieder ganz oben. Nach dem Sieg des in diesem Jahr schon ausgeschiedenen Marco im Vorjahr, ist in diesem Jahr dessen älterer Bruder Alejandro Das Maß aller Dinge. Der Argentinier gewanndie Etappe mit über 3 Minuten Vorsprung auf den bisher führenden Tomas Maffei. Die beden werden wohl die Dakar unter sich ausmachen, denn der Tagesdritte, Martin Plechaty, hatte mehr als eine halbe Stunde Rückstand. Auftaktsieger Josef Machacek erhielt heute eine saftige 4-Stunden-Strafe und ist endgültig aus dem Kreis der erweiterten Spitze heraus gefallen.
Bei den Trucks hat Wladimir Schagin wohl seinen Geburtstag gestern zu lang gefeiert. "Der Zar" verlor heute 22 Minuten auf den Sieger Firdaus Kabirow, der nun auch die Gesamtwertung vor Schagin (+ 13:36) abführt. Ales Loprais bleibt weiter Dritter, ist jetzt aber schon über 25 Minuten zurück. Eínen Platz verloreb hat der deutsche MAN-Pilot Franz Echter. Trotzdem weiter beachtlich: Platz 5. Matthias Behringer rückte auf Platz 10 vor und bestätigt weiter seine gute Form, die er schon mit Platz 8 bei der Silk Way Rallye zeigte. Die weiteren Platzierung liegen zur Zeit nicht vor.
